Celebrate Earth Day: Recycle Computers for Free with Goodwill.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – In celebration of Earth Day, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Inc. wants to remind residents that year round it recycles computers and computer accessories for free at its nine northeast Indiana locations. Goodwill has five stores in Fort Wayne, and one in Auburn, Angola, Columbia City and Huntington.

Goodwill accepts working and nonworking computers (desktop and laptop), hard drives, monitors, keyboards, mice, software and just about anything that can be attached to a computer (e.g., printers, speakers, cords), regardless of brand. Goodwill does not accept televisions and suggests community members take televisions to OmniSource where they can be recycled for a small fee.

Donors are asked to:

• Back up any valuable information and erase sensitive data from any hard drive before donating; and

• Place any monitor or scanner with broken glass in a cardboard box lined with a large plastic garbage bag, seal the box and clearly label it with “broken monitor” or “broken scanner” and the date.

Goodwill uses the revenue generated through the sale of donated computer equipment and other items to support its mission of building better communities by providing opportunities for people with disabilities or employment barriers.

All donations made to Goodwill are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The computer recycling program, called Reconnect, is managed by Goodwill Industries and Dell.
