Retail Training Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Inc. have built a partnership with Walgreens to help meet the employment needs of the community and to assist Walgreens in fulfilling their commitment to hiring people with disabilities. This program is designed to assist individuals with barriers to employment in acquiring personal, social and work skills consistent to obtain and maintain employment at Walgreens or Goodwill, at other retail establishments, or in a related field requiring their newly acquired skills. The retail training program consists of six weeks of classroom and hands on instruction. The classroom education is held at the Goodwill Corporate office, while the hands on internship at selected Goodwill and Walgreens stores. The participants also take various field trips to other retail establishments throughout the training to gain an understanding of the different levels of customer service and retail processes. The classroom instruction and hands on training alternates throughout the six weeks to maximize what is learned in the classroom and for discussion of what was practiced at the work site. The last week is reserved for review, job seeking skills training, resumes and mock interviewing
