What We Cannot Accept

It's hard to say "No Thank You" to a donation when our operating funds are realized through the sale of donated materials. Items can be refused for some very good reasons:  Some items are not recyclable or contain hazardous waste. Others cost more to transport, repair or refurbish than they can be sold for in our stores.

Our donation center attendants may decline a donation if, in their judgment, it is not in clean, saleable condition.

We cannot accept the following items:

bullet Furniture in need of repair – soiled, torn, missing pieces, etc.
bullet Large appliances – refrigerators/freezers, stoves/ovens, washers/dryers, trash compactors, dehumidifiers, etc.
bullet Lift chairs
bullet Electric or kerosene heaters
bullet Vehicles (i.e. cars, trucks, boats, etc.)
bullet Automobile parts of any kind – tires, rims, hubcaps, etc.
bullet Hazardous waste – lead acid batteries, additives, gasoline, oil antifreeze, etc.
bullet Hot water heaters
bullet Large stereos or console televisions
bullet Furnaces
bullet Wood stoves
bullet Freon bases appliances
bullet Computers (Pentium II or older)
bullet Used Carpeting and padding
bullet Waterbed mattresses or frames
bullet Hospital beds
bullet Soiled mattresses or box springs
bullet Windows, screens, shutters, doors
bullet Newspapers, magazines, school textbooks, office paper, encyclopedias
bullet Traditional recyclables – glass, cardboard, plastics, etc.
bullet Household trash and garbage
bullet Wire hangers
bullet Used motorcycle or bicycle helmets
bullet Fluorescent lighting fixtures
bullet Scrap lumber, concrete, bricks, stones
bullet Bathroom/kitchen fixtures – sinks, bathtubs, toilets, shower doors, etc.
bullet Playground equipment, swing sets
bullet Pianos and organs
bullet Pool tables
bullet Broken electronics – stereos, radios, etc.
bullet Air conditioning units
bullet Paint, paint thinner, insecticides, pesticides
bullet Household chemicals - drain or oven cleaner, cleaning supplies
bullet Aerosols and other environmentally unfriendly waste products
bullet Food items
bullet Office dividers or metal desks
bullet Gas grills or propane tanks new or used
bullet Personal care items: nail polish remover, shampoo, shaving cream, hairsprays, perfumes, etc.
bullet Weapons – guns, bows & arrows, ammunition, hunting knives, etc.
bullet Used Venetian or mini blinds
bullet Items that don’t meet the current safety standards of the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, including recalled items – cribs, car seats, walkers or playpens

 

When you are going through your donations, please keep in mind that we can't accept anything broken or in poor condition. Goodwill does not have a repair facility so please recycle anything that you know we can't sell. When planning to donate, stop to think if you would give that item to your brother, sister, child, or friend.

 

Why so many lists?

We cannot accept some things for a variety of reasons, including safety and chemical hazards and high garbage disposal fees for items that cannot be recycled or resold.
