President's Message
Goodwill’s employees, volunteers/interns, and board members are guided by the following organizational values: Dignity and respect for those we serve; The power of work; Independence and self-sufficiency from inclusion in the community’s competitive workforce; Assumption of responsibility by the individual; Stewardship, fiscal responsibility and efficient use of resources; Ethical behavior; Active corporate citizenship; Goodwill supports itself as much as possible; and Transparency. To demonstrate public accountability and transparency, Goodwill’s staff and board adopted several policies to voluntarily comply with provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act relevant to the nonprofit sector. Goodwill believes that investing in people with disabilities/employment barriers enables them to have a better life for their families through competitive employment and work builds strong families and creates the economic energy that builds strong communities. With an income, a person with a disability/employment barrier is able to offer his/her family not only basic necessities, but the anticipation of a better future. We value your ongoing support and will use it to improve the lives of those to whom we are entrusted to serve. Thank you for your support of Goodwill.
Objective and Philosophy Our objective is to provide work opportunities and skill development for people with barriers to employment. Goodwill's goal is to expand occupational opportunities for individuals who face a variety of obstacles to becoming a productive member of the workforce. Training and support play a critical role in Goodwill's philosophy of empowering individuals with the skills needed to find meaningful employment – from persons transitioning off welfare, to displaced workers in need of new skills to re-enter the workplace, to persons with physical or cognitive disabilities. Goodwill does more than just help an individual find a job. Goodwill looks at the whole person – recognizing that an individual's success in the workplace is contingent upon their ability to adapt to the challenges of daily life. Nationally accredited by CARF—the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, Goodwill is governed by a Board of Directors composed of local business and professional women and men of various races and creeds.
